Abstract
Description
Congress authorized various departments to take charge of supplying and supporting the army. Staff were needed to procure food, clothes, weapons, ammunition, and medical care. Offices were needed to train soldiers, transport supplies and artillery, set up hospitals, keep supply lines open, build bridges, and repair wagons.
