dc.descriptionThe Drake Opera House was built on this site in 1865. That building was demolished and replaced by this building in 1926. The new theater was opened as a vaudeville and silent-film house. The theater operated as a movie palace from the 1920's until it was closed by RKO in 1979. By 1980 it was threatened with demolition but saved by local preservationists. In 1994, it was purchased by real estate executive George A. Castro II, who led a major renovation to restore its 1920s grandeur,
