In Paris a partnership was started at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. This school of architecture served as the pinnacle of architectural education in the 19th century. Edward Lippincott Tilton was a New York City native who left a promising career in banking to pursue a passion, and William Alciphon Boring from the extremely rural town of Carlinville, Illinois. These two men would form a brief, but nevertheless important partnership that forever changed the storied landscape of Ellis Island making it a symbol for a country built by the hands and hearts of those of many nations.
