Sitting atop a hill on a 1,000 acre estate in northern Jefferson Township is the former estate of Alfred T. Ringling, one of the original Ringling brothers. Ringling, as financier, and Headley, as construction boss, spared no expense inside or out. The project cost $500,000 -- a princely sum in the early 20th century -- and when it was completed in 1919, approximately six years after its conception, it had 26 rooms, 14 fireplaces and two sun-decks. There were several adjacent houses for performers and barns and stables for the horses, elephants, lions, birds and other domestic animals that made their home at Ringling Manor.
