Hilltop Presbyterian Church was founded in 1738 and in 1745 the first church was built on this site
During the winter of 1777 The Continental Army camped at Jockey Hollow and the church was used by the army as a hospital for soldiers infected with Smallpox, The 28 soldier that died of the illness were buried in a mass grave in the church cemetery.
By 1817 a second church was constructed on the site of the present church.
Unfortunately both the second and third churches were destroyed by fire.
Finally this church building was dedicated in April of 1860
