Abstract
Description
This is an example of a little known story of how Russians migrated to New Jersey.
Many of them were fleeing their country which was under Soviet control and led by Lenin.
Some came as a result of the Russian Civil War (1917 -1923). which was a result of the emergence of opposition against the Bolsheviks after November 1917.
The White Russians groups included monarchists, militarists, and people suffering from religious persecution.
Collectively, they were known as the Whites while the Bolsheviks were known as the Reds.
With the defeat of the White Armies a
large Russian migration occurred with many of these people settled around Jackson in Ocean County . It should be noted that some of these people actually sold themselves into indentured servitude to finally make their way to Jackson and settle here.
These two churches, along with others in the county are examples of their cultures and religious beliefs.
