Abstract
Description
Date approximate based on research. An RCA-built experimental super high frequency (SHF) satellite ground station is used to communicate through the Department of Defense's TACSAT I satellite in orbit above the United States. Designed for use by field combat forces, the set is carried in a Jeep with its power supply mounted on a trailer. It was developed as part of the TACSATCOM (Tactical Communications Satellite) program, a joint effort of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. A family of five SHF sets are built by RCA's Defense Communications Systems Division, Camden, N.J., under direction of the Army's Satellite Communications Agency (SATCOM), which is responsible for the SHF ground equipment.
