Labor and Workforce Development

The Department has responsibilites for New Jersey's employers and workforce, including job training and career assistance, labor market research, ensuring safe and equitable working environments, unemployment assistance, and family leave administration. It is comprised of several offices and divisions, including Labor Standards and Safety Enforcement, Workforce Development, and the Division of Workers' Compensation. The Department is also affiliated with severl independent agencies, including the Board of Mediation, Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC), State Employment and Training Commission, Minimuum Wage Advisory Commission, and the Civil Service Commission.

The Department was formed in 2004 when the Department of Labor was renamed.
