Enabling legislation: Chapter 63, Laws of 2007. This legislation included a revision of the title and duties of the 21 county superintendents of schools. The act provided that the Governor, upon the recommendation of the Commissioner of Education and the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint for each county an Executive County Superintendent for a term of three years. The duties include monitoring key components of school district effectiveness: instruction and program, personnel, fiscal management, operations and governance.
